Students and faculty evacuated Perloff Hall Thursday afternoon after a fire broke out in the building.

UCLA Fire Marshal Dana Johnson said a machine overheated in the lower shop causing filters in the building’s ventilation system to catch fire.

Firemen put out the fire in about 30 minutes.

No further information was immediately available.
