Dear Editor,
I want to thank Hannah Rosson for writing the article “UCLA offers new travel study programs, summer institutes for 2016.” Each summer, UCLA offers more than a thousand courses, including travel study and summer institutes, that are of great interest to UCLA students.
I do want to make a couple of important clarifications, however.
Although the costs of the new summer institutes were not yet calculated at the time of the interview, we do know the costs of travel study. For all University of California undergraduates, the English Department’s travel study in Florence, Italy, will cost $5,400; Global Health in Lima, Peru, will cost $5,300 and Scandinavian Section in Copenhagen, Denmark, will cost $5,600. Graduate students and non-UC students should expect to add another $500 to those costs. Program fees include tuition and housing; airfare and textbooks are not included. Scholarships and other financial aid are available.
Also, college- or professional-level summer institutes run both Session A and Session C periods with varying dates, offering six to 13 units of UC credit. Details will be made available on the Summer Sessions website at summer.ucla.edu/institutes.
Enrollment is open for Travel Study, and will open for the Summer Institutes and all summer course offerings Feb. 1.
Sincerely,
Jaime R. Balboa
