ELFIN is a group of students building a satellite on the UCLA campus. They are working in conjunction with NASA to launch in 2017, with the goal of measuring electron losses in space. Second year aerospace student Reuben Rozario and third year mechanical engineering student Anthony Gildemeister give an inside look at the construction of the satellite.

  1. i have a theory/conjecture. we know that the Chinese has the ASAT.

    The military applications of ASAT missiles appear fairly obvious. China would seek to use the ASAT missiles to knock out U.S. satellites in order to degrade its C5ISR capabilities, rendering distributed U.S. military and allied assets unable to communicate or share information. The U.S. is seeking to counter China’s growing capabilities in this area in a number of ways, including through creating greater redundancy in its own systems.
    United State’s counter measures more american satellite as targets.

    my theory/conjecture is that the student made satellite is there as a pretext for American defense.
    as 1. civilian satellite that military defense / offense capability.
    2. civilian satellite that will act as shield and distractional target for the Chinese ASAT satellite. if it means that Chinese would target was a “military” satellite disguise as “civilian” satellite. that would be a propaganda win for united states.
