UCLA alumnus Russell Westbrook, who currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder, made the biggest-ever donation by a former UCLA basketball player, UCLA announced Monday.
Westbrook made his contribution to The Mo Ostin Basketball Center, on which construction began in August. As a result, the facility’s practice court will be named after the NBA star – “Russel Westbrook Court.”
Westbrook was the fourth pick of the 2008 NBA Draft after spending two years with the Bruin program. The point guard had a standout sophomore season in which he averaged 12.7 points and 4.3 rebounds, also becoming Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and helping his team reach the Final Four. Westbrook has since spent eight seasons in the NBA with the Thunder, currently putting up 26.1 points per game.
