UCLA was tied for the 23rd best college and ranked as the second best public university for the second year in a row in a ranking by the U.S. News & World Report released on Tuesday.

USC and Carnegie Mellon University were tied at No. 23 with UCLA. Last year, UCLA was placed two slots above USC, which was ranked No. 25.

U.S. News & World Report ranks about 150 national universities and 150 liberal arts colleges. According to U.S. News & World Report, the rankings are based on factors like first-year student retention, graduation rates and strength of faculty members.

UC Berkeley was ranked No. 20 in the nation – in addition to being ranked as the No. 1 public university – followed by Georgetown and Emory.

Princeton, Harvard and Yale were ranked No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 respectively, also for the second year in a row.
