UCPD searching for suspect who robbed student in North Village

University police are searching for a man who knocked a UCLA student to the ground and stole his backpack in the North Village last Thursday.

The man robbed the student about 1:30 a.m. at the corner of Gayley Avenue and Lindbrook Drive, according to a UCPD statement. He was last seen running southbound on Gayley Avenue.

No injuries were reported. The student called police about 12 hours later.

The man was described as black, 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 160 to 170 pounds with black hair and some facial hair, according to the statement. He was wearing a long, dark trench coat.

No further information was immediately available. The case is still under investigation.

UCPD recommends students let robbers know that they intend to obey, to keep calm and observe what the robber looks like and what he or she is wearing.

Anyone with information about the incident can call UCPD at 310-825-9371.
