A group of anonymous donors recently contributed $1 million to the UCLA School of Law to fund a new scholarship program, according to a law school statement released Thursday.
The gift established the Million Dollar Student Scholarship and Financial Aid Fund Challenge. As part of the challenge, the law school pledges to match scholarship donations dollar for dollar.
Donations will be used to provide scholarships and financial aid, said Lauri Gavel, a spokeswoman for the School of Law, in an email statement.
The donation will increase the amount of scholarship money awarded to each student and the total number of scholarships awarded, starting with the incoming class of 2018, said Jennifer Gray, the law school’s director of annual giving.
Donations made to the challenge will be a part of UCLA’s Centennial Campaign, Gavel said. Launched in May 2014, the campaign aims to raise $4.2 billion for UCLA by the end of 2019. The School of Law has raised about $57 million toward its $150 million Centennial Campaign goal.
“Supporting our students by building our student scholarship and financial aid fund is a top law school priority,” said Rachel F. Moran, dean of the School of Law, in a press release. “This inspirational gift will empower a new generation of leaders.”
