Members of the Associated Students UCLA Finance Committee and the Communications Board discussed the association’s finances and possible models for UCLA Student Media at their monthly meeting Friday.
Budgets
- Sales at the UCLA Store were higher than expected in February, especially in the computer department.
- Sales at Kerckhoff Coffee House have been strong, which ASUCLA Executive Director Robert Williams said may be because ASUCLA replaced the Baskin-Robbins ice cream section with a new coffee station.
- ASUCLA officials said they are still concerned about low sales figures on the A-level of Ackerman Union.
Communications Board discussion
- The Finance Committee met with members of the Communications Board, which is tasked with running UCLA Student Media. Members discussed possible future budgets and funding strategies for Student Media.
Agenda items
- The committee approved final budget assumptions for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. The assumptions include increased spending on custodial staff to make the bathrooms in the Student Union cleaner.
- Members showed support for an gender-inclusive bathroom, which members of ASUCLA management said will cost about $150,000 and will be built on the A-level of Ackerman Union.
- The committee added discussions about a potential cafe in Powell Library to its April agenda.
