Westwood Community Council recap – Jan. 20

The Westwood Community Council meets several times a year to discuss issues relevant to the Westwood Village business and residential community.

  • A spokesman for Senator Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) said Lieu is negotiating with Robert McDonald, secretary for Veteran Affairs, about issues regarding the VA West Los Angeles Medical Center campus.
  • Chris Ragsdale, the LAPD senior lead officer for Westwood, said there have been several grand theft autos and car break-ins in Westwood.
  • Steve Sann, chair of the council,said a homeless count will be held Jan. 28 to determine how to allocate federal and state funds to homeless individuals across Los Angeles. About 20 to 30 volunteers have signed up so far, but he said he hopes to have about 70 volunteers in Westwood during the count.
  • Ryan Snyder, an urban designer who created a proposal for bike lanes in Westwood without removing parking spaces or car lanes, presented to the council about his proposal. Councilmembers discussed other possible lane possibilities.
