UCLA alumnus gifts $10M to establish scholarship funds at GSEIS

The estate of a UCLA alumnus donated about $10 million to the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies to establish two new scholarship programs, the university announced Jan. 13.

The Gordon and Olga Smith estate made the donation to provide scholarships for students within the UCLA Teacher Education program and to support the recruitment of students to the program through scholarships.

The donation marks the largest the graduate school has ever received, according to a school statement.

Gordon Smith earned his teaching degree from UCLA in 1964. He taught social studies and he and his wife both taught Spanish within the Burbank Unified School District.
