UCLA alumnus Mukund Padmanabhan recently donated $2.5 million to fund a laboratory in his name in the new Engineering VI building.
The laboratory will focus on semiconductor systems, according to a UCLA press release.
Padmanabhan studied electrical engineering at UCLA, and he received his master’s degree in 1989 and doctorate in 1992. He currently conducts research in statistical financial modeling for Renaissance Technologies, a New York-based hedge fund management firm.
The initial phase of the building will be completed early this year, and the Padmanabhan Systems Scaling Technology Lab and other research and teaching centers will be in the building in spring, according to the release.
