The Graduate Students Association is the voice of UCLA’s graduate student body. Forum meets every three weeks and takes positions on current issues affecting graduate students on campus. Forum meetings are at 5:30 p.m. in Ackerman Union’s Global Viewpoint Lounge.
Agenda
- GSA members elected Milan Chatterjee, a graduate student at the UCLA School of Law, vice president of internal affairs.
- GSA President Michael Hirshman said forum will have an estimated budget late next week. He said forum will have a proposed budget with current figures at the meeting in December.
Officer reports
- Hirshman gave a presentation about the University of California Office of the President’s proposed tuition increase. Under the current plan, the UC will increase student fees and tuition by no more than 5 percent annually until the 2019-2020 academic year.
- Ivy Onyeador, GSA vice president of academic affairs, said she plans to talk with administrators to understand the logistics for teaching assistants under the recently passed diversity requirement in the College of Letters and Science. She said she will clarify the training process for teaching assistants under the proposal.
- Andres Schneider, GSA vice president of external affairs, said he is currently drafting legislation to introduce immigration reform for graduate students who want to study in the United States.
