BOULDER, Colo. — UCLA wasted no time in the first half of its game against Colorado, in which it leads 24-14 at halftime.
After a penalty, UCLA’s first official play on offense – a handoff to the left to redshirt sophomore running back Paul Perkins – went 92 yards for a touchdown.
The Bruins didn’t let up for the rest of the quarter.
About seven minutes later, redshirt junior quarterback Brett Hundley connected with junior wide receiver Jordan Payton, who was left wide open, for a 20-yard touchdown.
On Colorado’s ensuing possession, redshirt senior inside linebacker Eric Kendricks intercepted a pass thrown right at him. The Bruins’ following drive stalled, but junior kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn hit a 31-yard field goal to make it a 17-0 lead in the first quarter.
But momentum shifted in the second quarter.
The tempo slowed down and the Buffaloes were able to move the ball effectively on the ground, scoring on a one-yard run at the 6:12 mark in the second quarter to make it 17-7.
The Bruins’ offense, which had been sluggish in the second quarter, came back to life in response. Perkins finished off a 75-yard drive with a 24-yard touchdown run to put UCLA ahead 24-7.
Colorado, in turn, answered. The Buffaloes drove 75 yards, aided by several Bruin penalties, and scored on a 17-yard touchdown run to make it 24-14.
On UCLA’s next drive, Hundley fumbled and the ball was recovered by Colorado on the UCLA 32-yard line. The Buffaloes drove to UCLA’s 4-yard line, but a false start penalty, leading to a 10-second run off, allowed the Bruins to escape to halftime without further damage.
