Students will be able to meet representatives of different Arab student organizations and enjoy Middle Eastern food at the first Arab Welcome Day on Tuesday.
The event will be at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and all students are welcome to attend the event, said Alaa Abuadas, a fourth-year communication studies student and the programming director of Students for Justice in Palestine.
Student organizations involved in planning the event include the Empowered Arab Sisterhood sorority and the United Arab Society. The event aims to get Arab students at UCLA to come together and learn more about the Arab student organizations at UCLA, Abuadas said.
Abuadas added that the student organizations involved plan to make the Arab Welcome Day an annual event.
Representatives from organizations such as the Arab American Association of Engineers and Architects will attend to introduce themselves to interested students. The UCLA Dabke Troupe dance group and the Takht Dirty musician group will also be performing at the event, and Middle Eastern-style barbecued food will be provided for free.
“A lot of people don’t know that there’s an Arab engineering fraternity on campus and people don’t know about the LA Dabke Troupe,” Abuadas said.
