Thirteen games into the season, UCLA men’s water polo has yet to stumble. The team has handily beaten all but USC and Stanford, who the Bruins still managed to beat by two each.
This weekend, No. 1 UCLA (13-0, 1-0 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) will face two ranked opponents – No. 12 Pepperdine on Friday and No. 17 Loyola Marymount on Saturday. UCLA has won its last ten meetings against the Pepperdine Waves and has never lost to LMU.
Both of these games will count toward MPSF rankings. The Bruins are currently tied with the USC Trojans for the top conference spot, but with only four of nine MPSF teams having played conference games, the field is still wide open.
UCLA will also play an exhibition game Saturday afternoon against unranked Golden West College.
Coming off three straight top-10 opponents, UCLA will be looking to dominate its top-20 and unranked opponents this season. After generally winning by at least 10 points, the Bruins only won their last three games by an average of just over four points.
