The Campus Events Commission and Cultural Affairs Commission have announced the lineup for Bruin Bash 2014. This year, Kandace Springs and Chance the Rapper will take the stage, continuing the hip-hop theme of last year’s lineup that featured E-40 and Tyga.
Kandace Springs
Nashville, Tenn., native Kandace Springs will be the opener of the night. Recently, the up-and-coming songstress has performed her neo-soul music in venues across New York City. Her covers of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” and Jhené Aiko’s “The Worst” have recieved thousands of views on YouTube, even grabbing the attention of Prince, who subsequently asked her to perform at the 30th anniversary celebration of “Purple Rain.” The soul artist will release a hip-hop inspired self-titled EP on Sept. 30 and debut her first full-length album in 2015.
Chance The Rapper
A hip-hop artist from Chicago, Chance The Rapper first gained attention in 2012 after independently releasing his first full-length mixtape “10 day.” He then toured as the opening act of Childish Gambino’s tour. In 2013, the release of his mixtape “Acid Rap” was met with acclaim from critics, who praised his ability to incorporate various genres such as alternative and jazz. He has since appeared as a guest artist on Justin Bieber’s song “Confident” and Lil Wayne’s “You Song.”
