Students and staff will have a chance to test-drive electric vehicles on campus during a National Drive Electric Week event Tuesday.
UCLA Transportation, the UCLA Smart Grid Energy Research Center and Plug In America, a nonprofit educational organization that promotes the use of electrical vehicles, will host the program to encourage students to use alternative modes of transportation, according to a press release.
Participants will be able to drive vehicles such as the Tesla Model S, Nissan LEAF and Chevrolet Volt on a two-mile course around the east side of campus and Hilgard Avenue.
Officials expect to have more than 45 cars at the event, including about 18 different models, according to the release.
The event will also include speakers such as Matt Peterson, chief sustainability officer of Los Angeles.
