The No. 4 UCLA men’s soccer team started off its season strong on Friday night, defeating No. 11 Wake Forest on the road, 3-1.
In the first 13 minutes, the Bruins built a 1-0 deficit, but quickly showed their resilience and skill, scoring two goals over the next 10 minutes of play.
Redshirt senior forward Andrew Tusaazemajja began the Bruins’ scoring with a goal in the 16th minute. Then, in the 22nd minute, junior transfer Larry Ndjock notched his first goal as a Bruin, thanks to assists by Tusaazemajja and sophomore midfielder Felix Vobejda.
The Bruin defense would stifle the Demon Deacons’ offensive attack from that point forward, as redshirt senior goalie Earl Edwards had three saves to help preserve the Bruins’ lead. UCLA would put an exclamation point on its season-opening victory with an 88th-minute goal by freshman forward Seyi Adekoya.
UCLA will stay in North Carolina for a couple more days, as it is slated to play at North Carolina at 7 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday.
