A man with a knife grabbed a UCLA student in the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden Wednesday evening, university police said.

The student was jogging on the northeast side of the sculpture garden, south of Macgowan Hall, about 8:30 p.m. when the man, who was holding a knife in his right hand, grabbed her from behind.

Upon seeing the altercation, another person in the sculpture garden yelled at the man, who let go of the student and left in an unknown direction.

The student reported three minor cuts on her upper arm.

The man had light-colored skin and was wearing a black long-sleeved sweater and dark-colored pants that were possibly denim, witnesses told police. The student reported that the man’s breath smelled strongly of alcohol.

No further information was immediately available. The case is still under investigation.
