University police are searching for a man wanted for allegedly peeping several times into North Village apartments in recent years, after he failed to appear at a recent court date.
Christopher Mendicino, 46, was arrested in May on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct after peeking into an inhabited building, said UCPD spokeswoman Nancy Greenstein.
University police are also searching for a suspect in connection with a peeping reported just before 11 p.m. on Sunday on Veteran Avenue. Police could not immediately provide a description of the suspect or confirm whether he matches Mendicino’s description.
Mendicino, who is from Los Angeles, was also arrested by UCPD in 2007 for probable cause burglary after officers saw him peering into an apartment on Ophir Drive and trying to open the door. Mendicino is a former employee of the Village Center Newsstand, which closed in June.
University police released a wanted poster on Monday showing Mendicino’s mugshot from his May arrest and a photo that appears to show him being arrested in 2013.
Several peepings have been reported in the North Village in recent months.
University police have arrested two other men recently in connection with peepings in Westwood apartments. UCLA alumnus Thibault Mathieu, 29, was arrested on July 14 for allegedly peeping into a Kelton Avenue apartment. In June, Paris Arnaud, 36, was arrested in connection with peepings on Roebling and Kelton avenues.
UCPD recommends that students be aware of their surroundings, lock their doors and windows, shut their blinds and contact police if they see anything suspicious.
Anyone with additional information regarding Mendicino or other peeping incidents or suspects can call UCPD at (310) 825-1491.
