Student’s laptop stolen from Sigma Nu fraternity house

A UCLA student’s laptop was stolen from his room in the Sigma Nu fraternity house on Gayley Avenue last weekend.

The laptop was taken between 9:30 p.m. Friday and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to university police logs.

Forrest Lee, a third-year electrical engineering student, said he left his laptop in his closet when he went to a friend’s house on Friday night.

He added that he didn’t cover both of his windows with blinds, and left one of the windows about 3 inches open.

“I assume the burglar saw the open window sometime late at night, looked in to see that I was not in bed and climbed into my window,” Lee said. “I’m just glad they didn’t have the means to take more of my belongings.”

Lee said when he came back to Westwood on Saturday afternoon, he noticed that the blanket that covered the open window was on the ground and a couch pillow was set against the window.

He said he felt something was amiss, looked at his closet and saw that his laptop charger was missing. He said he realized his laptop was gone, and tore apart his room searching for it. Later in the day, he realized his $60 headphones were missing, as well as a flash drive that was in his laptop case.

Lee said he was disappointed because the laptop had sentimental value and a lot of his data was lost.

Police recommend that students keep their doors and windows locked and do not invite or allow any strangers into their rooms.

Anyone with information about either incident can call UCPD at (310) 825-9371.
