Students can apply to be UCLA delegates for upcoming statewide and nationwide conferences starting Tuesday.
The Undergraduate Students Association Council External Vice President’s office will release two applications for the delegate positions on its Facebook page this week. The applications are due at 11:59 p.m. on July 15.
The conferences will take place in California this summer. The University of California Student Association, a systemwide organization that advocates for UC students, is hosting one of the conferences, called UCSA Congress, to decide the initiatives the group will focus on over the next year.
The United States Student Association, a student-led organization that aims to use grassroots organizing to accomplish student initiatives, will host the other conference to decide its own goals for the year.
Student delegates help represent the student body and determine the campaigns that UCSA and the USSA focus on for the remainder of the year, said Conrad Contreras, USAC external vice president.
The external vice president’s office takes about 60 students to the UCSA Congress and about 20 people to the USSA Congress each year, Contreras said. The costs of the trips are covered by the external vice president’s office budget, he added.
Contreras said the two conferences help his office determine areas where it can improve student involvement in state and nationwide campaigns.
