The growing UCLA backfield got a little more crowded after T. J. Simmons announced his commitment to the Bruins on Monday.
The class of 2015 recruit, who hails from Lakeland, Fla., chose UCLA over Auburn and in-state powers Florida and Florida State, among others.
With his signing, the 6-foot, 195-pound Simmons becomes the second running back in the UCLA recruiting class of 2015, joining three-star prospect Bolu Olorunfunmi, who signed with the Bruins in March.
When he arrives on campus in the fall of 2015, Simmons could join current UCLA running backs redshirt junior Steven Manfro, redshirt sophomore Paul Perkins, redshirt freshman Craig Lee and 2014 four-star recruit and freshman Nathan Starks.
Rivals.com has him clocked at 4.42 seconds in the 40-yard dash, rating the speedy Simmons as the 21st-overall running back prospect. That ranking would make him the highest-rated UCLA running back commit since redshirt senior Jordon James, who was rated as the No. 8 running back prospect in the class of 2010.
