USAC recap – June 10

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students. Watch a live stream of the meeting on the USAC Live! YouTube channel.

Agenda

  • The council unanimously approved contingency allocations.
  • The council unanimously approved funding allocations for the External Vice President’s office Travel and Advocacy Grant.
  • Negeen Sadeghi-Movahed, a third-year political science student and chief of staff in the USAC Office of the President, and Alyssa Nunez, a third-year political science student, presented a draft of bylaws for a new transfer representative council position. The bylaws stipulate that the transfer representative shall aim to increase support for transfer students, partly through programming for transfer student orientation and Transfer Bruin Day. The bylaws also state that the transfer representative shall address issues related to housing for transfer students by communicating with the On-Campus Housing Council, commuter students and other communities, among other goals.

Appointments

  • The council unanimously appointed Denea Joseph, a second-year political science student, and Carly Calbreath, a third-year geography and environmental studies student, to the Associated Students UCLA Board of Directors. The Board of Directors has control over ASUCLA’s activities involving business management or the receipt and expenditure of funds, among other duties. Appointed students also receive free tuition.

Officer Reports

  • USAC President Devin Murphy said he met with Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Janina Montero on June 4 and discussed ways to increase Chancellor Gene Block’s involvement in student life. He added that he wants to increase the number of meetings between the USAC President’s office and Block to at least two a quarter.
  • General Representative Nihal Satyadev said his office received 10 lab coat donations through a drive hosted on Thursday, Friday and Monday for a lab coat loaner library.
