Every Friday, The Bruin Sports section will predict the outcome of the weekend’s top three UCLA sporting events.
Softball: NCAA Super Regionals: UCLA v. Kentucky (Saturday to Sunday)
The No. 3 seed Bruins are coming off a weekend in which they held one of the best offenses in the country scoreless in two games. After that feat, don’t expect UCLA to have a tough time winning a three-game series against No. 14 seed Kentucky. The Wildcats are 109th in the NCAA in runs scored per game and 36th in ERA. UCLA is 15th and 14th in those categories, respectively. Expect a UCLA sweep.
Men’s golf: NCAA championships: UCLA (Friday to Wednesday)
UCLA struggled in the conference tournament and barely advanced out of its region. However, give credit where credit is due – the Bruins are in Hutchinson, Kan., while many teams have to watch from the couch, and they are feeling confident after their comeback in regional play. Still, the Bruins won exactly one tournament all year prior to this weekend. It would be extremely unlikely if they were to make it two on Wednesday.
Women’s golf: NCAA championships: UCLA – Currently in fourth
No. 2 UCLA enters the final day of play in fourth place but 11 shots behind the leader, Duke. The Bruins shot their best round Thursday, finishing a collective 3-over par. However, that effort was five shots more than the Blue Devils, meaning the Bruins would need a complete miracle to emerge as national champions. Crazier things have happened, but don’t expect it here.
