Bruin Plaza will be filled with food, carnival games and students Friday to celebrate the campus and its faculty as part of the university’s annual Thank UCLA Day.
The event, now in its fourth year, is hosted by the Student Giving Committee and will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“The whole goal of the day is to inspire philanthropy in students and celebrate the progress made in the past year,” said Sarah Andrews, the assistant director of the Student Giving Committee.
In anticipation of UCLA’s 100th anniversary in 2019, the university will kick off its Centennial Campaign, which aims to raise $4.2 billion by 2019, this weekend, with events and a booth at Thank UCLA Day. University officials will be present to answer any questions about the campaign.
“We want to show that we’re all working together toward the same goal. We’re sharing resources to promote the same message,” Andrews said.
Performances by UCLA students India Carney, Mary Carmen Manuel and Connor Vance will also take place throughout the event.
“We want students to not only appreciate the school but also to understand the connection we all have as a campus,” Andrews said.
The message of giving back to the campus will take the form of carnival games, student performances, thank-you card writing and a station for individuals to give donations to the university, among other attractions.
Incentives for the donations include a T-shirt with an “I heart UCLA” logo on it, a massage at a relaxation station and churros.
