Every Friday, The Bruin Sports section will predict the outcome of the weekend’s top three UCLA sporting events.
Softball: No. 2 UCLA v. No. 3 Arizona State (Friday to Saturday)
The Bruins cap off the regular season with a top-five duel in the desert. Like UCLA, Arizona State boasts great pitching and offense, so it should be a fairly even series. The Bruins dropped the first game of the series Thursday night, losing 2-0, but should bounce back Friday and Saturday. Expect UCLA to take two out of three this weekend.
Women’s water polo: NCAA tournament: UCLA v. UC San Diego (Friday to Sunday)
The players have expressed that at this point in the season, there isn’t much room for change of game play – but in this case, remaining the same could hurt the Bruins if it produces the same results as the rest of the season. No. 2 UCLA will likely take down UC San Diego easily on Friday and end up facing No. 1 Stanford Sunday. But if history repeats itself, the team will probably fall to the Cardinal and take home second place in the NCAA tournament.
Baseball: UCLA v. No. 2 Oregon State (Friday to Sunday)
UCLA’s toughest opponent of the season comes at the team’s most critical point. The Bruins have their backs against the wall and need a sweep to keep their playoff hopes alive. However the No. 2 Beavers will be too much for the Bruins and will be the ones doing the sweeping.
