The UCLA School of Dentistry received a $2.36 million donation to provide dental health for HIV and AIDS patients, according to a UCLA statement released Wednesday.
The grant, awarded by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, will allow UCLA to provide dental care for more than 1,000 HIV and AIDS patients each year for two years.
Many HIV and AIDS patients have difficulty accessing affordable dental care, which is important not only for functional and aesthetic reasons, but also for their general health, according to the statement.
Through the program, patients will be treated by nearby clinics, and will receive diagnostic services, tooth cleanings and corrective care.
