UCLA received two new grants totaling $4 million to study stem cell science and digestive diseases, according to a UCLA statement Thursday.
The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation awarded one $2 million grant to Charalabos Pothoulakis, the director of the Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease to study the molecular mechanisms of digestive diseases. Another $2 million grant was given to the Broad Stem Cell Research Center to continue funding the Innovation Award Program, according to the statement. The program gives UCLA stem cell scientists funding for their research projects.
The UCLA Broad Stem Cell Research Center and the Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases at UCLA’s Division of Digestive Diseases have received about $22 million from the Broad Foundation in the past decade, according to the statement.
