Women’s golf holds No. 1 seed for upcoming NCAA regionals

Armed with the No. 1 seed, the UCLA women’s golf team will travel to Stillwater, Okla., to compete in the NCAA Central Regional championship that stretches from Thursday to Saturday.

UCLA will square off against 23 other teams, including No. 9 Arizona, Colorado and California from the Pac-12, with the top eight schools advancing to the championships starting May 20. The top two individual golfers will also advance to the championship round.

Other ranked teams UCLA will compete against include No. 4 Arkansas, No. 12 Alabama, No. 14 LSU, No. 18 Oklahoma State, No. 22 North Carolina, No. 23 Ohio State and No. 24 Florida.

Ranked No. 2 nationally, the Bruins head into the start of NCAA play coming off a fourth-place finish in the Pac-12 championships – Arizona was one of the teams that topped UCLA. In that competition, freshman Alison Lee won the Pac-12 individual title making her a candidate to earn one of the two individual berths to the NCAA championships.

Historically, UCLA has won three NCAA championships – most recently in 2011 – and has also recorded eight regional titles under coach Carrie Forsyth. This is UCLA’s 20th straight berth to the NCAA regionals.
