USAC Recap – May 6

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students. Watch a live stream of the meeting on the USAC Live! YouTube channel.

Agenda

  • The council approved contingency programming allocations with a 9-0-0 vote.

Officer Reports

  • USAC President John Joanino said he will be meeting with administrators to discuss institutionalizing a way to honor the former UCLA Freedom Riders. Joanino also said his office is in the process of helping to choose the recipients of the John Huang Sarvey Leadership in Service Award.
  • USAC Internal Vice President Avi Oved said he will be meeting with Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer campus representatives to discuss expanding Ally Week and possibly coordinating it with National Coming Out Week in October.
  • USAC External Vice President Maryssa Hall said the University of California Student Association Board of Directors met last weekend and held initial discussions about selecting the next UC student regent.
  • USAC Academic Affairs Commissioner Darren Ramalho said his office will be choosing participants for the Undergraduate Student Initiated Education Program in the coming weeks, after receiving 28 applications for 15 available positions.
  • USAC Student Wellness Commissioner Savannah Badalich said she is beginning to restructure the Student Wellness Commission and evaluate which committees are still relevant to students. She also said a new 7000 in Solidarity website will launch next week.
  • USAC Administrative Representative Debra Geller said 7000 in Solidarity received the award for best student-run organization in the UC System.
