Electronics stolen from two North Village apartments

Laptops and other electronics were stolen from two North Village apartments Sunday morning while UCLA students were sleeping inside, officials said.

A burglar broke into students’ apartment on Levering Avenue near Strathmore Drive in the early morning and stole a MacBook Pro and Lenovo Thinkpad, the students said.

Oz Davis, a fourth-year molecular, cellular, and developmental biology student, said he went to sleep about 2 a.m. Sunday after studying for midterms.

Before falling asleep he went to grab his wallet, but left his laptop out on a table, he said.

Then, at 9 a.m., his roommate saw the laptops were gone. They were likely stolen by somebody who entered through an unlocked window and left through the door, Davis added.

He said his laptop was stolen after he worked all night on slides for a presentation Monday. He was upset that the thief not only made away with an item of monetary value, but also academically valuable files, he said.

Davis added that he thinks students should save their files on online cloud storage websites in order to minimize the damage of thefts.

Another student living in an apartment on the 600 block of Gayley Avenue reported that his laptop and cell phone were stolen while he was sleeping, according to the statement.

No further information was available. The case is still under investigation.

Police recommend that students keep their windows locked at night and do not allow strangers into their rooms.
