Asian Pacific Coalition to put on night market at UCLA

Beat boxers, dancers and Korean BBQ will be available for students at Night Market, featuring Asian and Pacific Islander entertainment and food in Wilson Plaza Thursday night.

The event will bring entertainers and community vendors to UCLA and serve as a way to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, said Heidi Lung, the administrative coordinator of the Asian Pacific Coalition, a coalition of 24 Asian American and Pacific Islander organizations.

Food trucks such as Kogi, which serves Korean BBQ-inspired tacos and burritos, will serve food at the event, which will last from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Performers such as KRNFX, a beat boxer who was a finalist on Canada’s Got Talent, and Samahang Modern, a hip-hop dance team at UCLA, are set to perform at the market. Other performers will be announced on the event’s Facebook page leading up to the event, said Lung, a third-year communications studies student.

Community vendors, such as Asian Americans Advancing Justice, will also introduce students to internships and other opportunities to be more involved in the community outside the campus at the market, she said. Student groups, such as the Vietnamese Student Union, and retail vendors, such as Blacklava, a vendor that specializes in Asian American merchandise, will also table at the event.
