The UCLA track and field team will head to San Diego to participate in the Triton Invitational, which takes place at the UCSD campus this weekend.
However, many star athletes will be skipping the invitational in preparation for the USC dual meet in the coming weekend.
The athletes that will be going will simply try to achieve better marks in preparation for championship season only a couple weeks away.
The Triton Invitational will be a good opportunity for throwers such as redshirt senior thrower Julian Wruck and redshirt sophomore thrower Nicholas Scarvelis to solidify their positions in the rankings and achieve higher marks.
Last week’s breakout star, senior heptathlete Alexis Walker, will compete as well in her weaker events to fine-tune technique for the USC dual meet, said coach Jack Hoyt.
Pole vaulters such as sophomore Renee Greene, redshirt sophomore Kayla Mallett and senior Courtney Reginato also look to get qualifying marks for the pre-nationals meet in Arkansas and the Pac-12 championships.
“This is our last chance to fine-tune our technique for the USC dual meet and it’ll be a good chance for some players to get qualifying marks,” Hoyt said.
