Voting for 2014 GSA elections to end Monday

This year’s unusually contested graduate student government elections will end Monday at noon on MyUCLA.

Two slates are running a total of six candidates in the Graduate Students Association elections. The race will determine next school year’s GSA president, vice president of internal affairs, vice president of external affairs and vice president of academic affairs.

GSA officers control thousands of dollars of student fees, as well as sit on a variety of committees across campus to advocate on behalf of graduate students. This elections period is the first time candidates have seen contested seats since 2011.

In recent years, graduate students have come out in small numbers to vote. Last year, about 11 percent of the student body voted after elections were reopened. The year before, voter turnout reached just 8 percent.

Official elections results will be released Wednesday.
