UC to open admission application in August

The University of California will open its 2015-2016 admission application in August instead of October to give students more time to complete their application.

On Friday, UC officials said they would open the application on Aug. 1 to help more students, including those who participate in summer college outreach programs, finish it on time.

“The fall is an incredibly busy time for students who are balancing a number of priorities,” said Stephen Handel, UC associate vice president of undergraduate admissions. “By giving applicants more flexibility, we think the process will be less stressful.”

Officials also made the change to better align the UC’s application cycle with other prominent universities.

The UC will still only accept application submissions from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30.

The UC already receives large numbers of applications. The UC received more than 180,000 applications for the 2014-2015 academic year, a 5 percent increase from last year. UCLA received among the highest numbers of applications in the country, more than 100,000 applications for freshman admission.
