ASUCLA Board of Directors meeting recap: March 14

Associated Students UCLA is a multi-million dollar organization that provides student services and activities that the university does not fund. It oversees the Undergraduate Students Association Council, Graduate Students Association, Communications Board and campus services and enterprises.

PROPOSALS

  • The board passed a proposal that would allow a graduate student’s fruit cart business, Miiveh, to begin operating on a pilot basis. Omeed Paydar, a bioengineering doctoral student and creator of the fruit cart, said the cart would bring students fresh fruit and follow health codes. Bob Williams, ASUCLA executive director, said that the cart would most likely operate in front of Ackerman Union.
  • The board reviewed a proposed policy that details how it will respond to donation requests. The board requested that some of the language in the policy be adjusted and that the revised policy be brought to a vote at the next meeting.
  • The board passed the 2014-2015 budget assumptions.

FOOD

  • Although the Sbarro’s pizza chain has filed for bankruptcy, their restaurant on the Ackerman Union first floor will not be leaving, said Richard Delia, ASUCLA financial director.
