UCLA leads Oregon 37-35 at halftime

LAS VEGAS — UCLA clearly put its most recent loss to Washington State in its rearview.

That part was rather easy. The Cougars suffered an 11-point loss to the Cardinal Wednesday night, sending them home from the Pac-12 tournament in a hurry.

In the first half of a quarterfinal matchup with Oregon, UCLA shot 55.6 percent from the field and made its first three three-point attempts of the game, looking altogether more engaged with the task at hand. With 20 minutes left to play at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, UCLA leads Oregon 37-35.

Redshirt senior forward Travis Wear accounted for six of UCLA’s first eight points of the game, and the Bruins jumped out to a 13-7 lead with 14:56 to play.

Over the next five minutes, Oregon’s Jason Calliste and Joseph Young each made a pair of field goals, bringing the Ducks back into the contest. A made free throw from the Ducks’ Damyean Dotson evened the tally at 21-all with 8:03 remaining in the half.

The Ducks led by as many as five with just under five minutes to play, but kept the deficit close thanks to layups from Wear as well as sophomore guard Jordan Adams. Sophomore guard/forward Kyle Anderson completed a three-point play with 2:21 to play, bringing the tally to 32-31.

After scoring seven points in the entirety of the Washington State game, Adams has just as many at the half. Travis Wear leads all UCLA scorers with eight points, while Anderson also scored seven points.

Young leads all scorers with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
