UCLA rowing to open its spring season Saturday

The UCLA rowing team ended the spring 2013 season in ninth place with 82 points at the NCAA championships.

This weekend, the team heads to Marina Del Rey to open its spring 2014 season against San Diego State.

Starting off its season last year, UCLA beat Loyola Marymount with first and second place times in varsity eight, 6:23.80 and 6:41.60, respectively; first place in second varsity eight with 6:54.90; and first and second place in varsity four with 7:41.90 and 7:56.60, respectively.

With the set of wins, the Bruins went on to the San Diego Crew Classic and finished fourth in the varsity eight Grand Final (6:30.25), fifth in the second varsity eight Grand Final (6:39.03), second in the varsity four Grand Final (7:26.10), third in the novice eight grand final (7:05.42) and second in the open eight grand final (7:11.53).

Not stopping there, they went on to the Pac-12 championships finishing fourth in the varsity eight (6:47.30), fourth in the second varsity eight (6:54.80), varsity four (7:26.70), fourth in the novice eight (7:12.00) and fourth in the final standings with 28 points.

The Bruins ended the season with first place in the varsity four (7:35.478), fifth in the second varsity eight (6:36.777), first in the varsity eight (6:26.618) and first in the varsity four (7:22.940) at the NCAA championships.

Rowing’s season continues on Saturday, March 8.
