The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are held on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students
Agenda
- USAC decided to form a committee to debrief last week’s meeting regarding a divestment resolution. The committee will make suggestions about the best practices USAC should take if it faced with a similar controversial vote.
- USAC approved contingency allocations with a 9-1-0 vote.
- USAC unanimously approved capital contingency allocations.
Special presentations
- USAC Community Service Commissioner Omar Arce gave a special presentation about the 2014 IMPACT National Conference, an annual event focused on engaging college students in community service, service learning and advocacy. He said his office sent 12 students to the conference.
Appointments
- The council unanimously appointed Omar Corona, a second-year political science and geography student, to the Judicial Board.
Officer reports
- USAC President John Joanino said his office plans to start publicizing the hours the Charles E. Young Research Library will be open for 10th and finals weeks. Joanino added that his office is accepting design ideas for the BruinCard redesign competition until March 14.
- A proxy for USAC Internal Vice President Avi Oved said the Internal Vice President’s office’s Campus Safety Day on Monday was successful.
- USAC External Vice President Maryssa Hall said she recently met with University of California President Janet Napolitano to talk about revamping the California Master Plan for Higher Education. Hall also told the council that UC Irvine’s undergraduate student government has pulled out of the University of California Student Association.
- A proxy for USAC Academic Affairs Commissioner Darren Ramalho said members of the office are currently reviewing the results of an online education survey the commission conducted. The survey received about 200 responses.
- USAC Student Wellness Commissioner Savannah Badalich said her office is working out the details for Bruin Health Week, which will take place during spring quarter. Badalich added that her office will be involved in multiple events relating to Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.
- USAC General Representative Sunny Singh said proceeds from a T-shirt design competition in which his office is involved in will go to support UCLA UniCamp. He also discussed tentative plans to fundraise through food truck events on Landfair and Roebling avenues.
