The Daily Bruin has decided not to live stream Tuesday night’s meeting of the Undergraduate Students Association Council because of cyberbullying and harassment of students using The Bruin’s footage following the Feb. 25 meeting about the divestment resolution.
Because of the charged nature of the campus conversation surrounding divestment in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the misappropriation of Daily Bruin footage for attacks on UCLA students by outside interest groups, we believe this decision is necessary to prevent further deterioration of campus climate.
For live updates of Tuesday night’s meeting, follow The Bruin’s campus editor, Amanda Schallert, at @AmandaSchallert on Twitter. The tweets will also be compiled into a Storify for those who want a full rundown of what happened at the meeting.
The Bruin will continue to live stream USAC meetings starting again next week at dailybruin.com. For students who are interested in attending USAC meetings, they are held on Tuesdays in Kerckhoff 417 at 7 p.m.
Here’s a tip to USAC officials: Don’t throw a shitfit on camera and you don’t have anything to worry about.
Here’s a tip to Daily Bruin: grow a pair and learn what free speech means, can’t believe I’m reminding a newspaper about the First Amendment. Put your personal feelings aside and do your job.
