Tender Greens, a restaurant chain that serves locally-sourced organic food, plans to open a location in Westwood Village in November.
The restaurant has already obtained a liquor license in its new location, said Christina Wong, a spokeswoman for Tender Greens. It will open on Glendon Avenue near the Hammer Museum.
Wong said it cost significantly more to build the Westwood location than the previous Tender Greens locations because it will take up shop in a historic building and will be larger with space for the bar. Wong said the decision to open a Westwood location was made with a variety of reasons in mind, including Westwood’s ability to attract an evening crowd and its proximity to a college campus.
Currently there are 13 other Tender Greens locations, including in Santa Monica, Hollywood and Culver City. Wong said the Westwood location is the first Tender Greens that will be located close to a college campus, along with another new opening planned near UC Irvine.
“We hope that Tender Greens can be more than a restaurant students go get lunch at,” Wong said. “We want to foster a sense of community, and make it a place where people can hang out, with a neighborhood feel.”
