UCLA students to visit LA city councilmember Paul Koretz

UCLA students will meet with Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Koretz Friday as part of a visit to better connect students with their local government representatives.

The Undergraduate Students Association Council External Vice President’s Office’s local affairs component is inviting students to sign up for the event, during which students will observe a council meeting and tour City Hall. They will also meet with Koretz, a UCLA alumna who represents the university’s city district.

The office is holding the event to encourage students to be more involved with the Los Angeles city government. There are certain issues the local government handles that directly affect UCLA like transportation, including monitoring bicycling, traffic and parking activity around campus, said Aurelia Friedman, assistant director of the external vice president’s office’s local affairs component.

“It’s important that we are actively engaging our local government because they are the ones who can affect tangible change for our campus,” Friedman said.

Students are asked to RSVP for the event.
