A UCLA student was assaulted and robbed in the North Village early Monday morning, marking the second reported Westwood robbery this month, university police said.

At about 2 a.m. Monday, the student was walking with his phone near the corner of Ophir and Landfair avenues,
according to a UCPD report released Thursday. A man told the student to give him the phone, and the student refused. The man then assaulted the student and stole the student’s wallet.

The man ran eastbound on Ophir Drive with two other men who police say may have acted as lookouts. The student reported the robbery Tuesday to UCPD.

The three men were all described as in their early 20s. Two of the men were described as black and one as white. The man who assaulted the student was described as 6-foot-2 with a thin build, clean shaven, with short black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a plain black hooded sweatshirt and navy blue jeans.

One of the lookouts was described as 6-foot-3 with a thin build, a short brown comb over, brown eyes and facial hair. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with a white logo, blue jeans and dark colored shoes.

The second lookout was described as 5-foot-11, with a medium build, possibly an afro or short dreadlocks, scruffy side burns, short facial hair and a mustache. He was wearing a dark jacket and pants.

A similar robbery occurred last week on Kelton Avenue near Ophir Drive. A man pushed a UCLA student from behind and stole her cellphone.

The man connected to last week’s robbery was described in the police report as black, 25 to 30 years old and 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8. He was wearing a green hat and possibly a red shirt, grey sweater and blue jeans.

Police recommend students be aware of their surroundings and avoid walking with a cell phone in their hand.

No further information was available. The case is still under investigation.
