University of California President Janet Napolitano and a panel of five UC students will discuss several issues affecting the University in a webchat at the end of the month.

In a Google Hangout on Jan. 28, the panel will discuss topics including undocumented students and military veterans at the UC, as well as tuition and diversity, according to a statement from the UC Office of the President.
Among the panelists are UC student regent Cinthia Flores and Daily Bruin assistant news editor and third-year history student Kristen Taketa, as well as Paul Malone, president of the Student Veterans Organization and student at UC Santa Barbara.

“I think (the webchat) is an innovative strategy to engage students,” Flores said. Flores added that the key to the success of the panel will be student turnout and the ability of the UCOP to advertise aggressively and widely.
Students following the online conversation will be able to submit questions for the panel to answer, the statement said.

According to the UC Office of the President, the webchat is intended to continue interaction between Napolitano and the UC community that began after the executive toured the UC’s campuses at the end of last year.

“(Napolitano) sees this Web chat, and the others that will follow, as ideal platforms for an ongoing conversation with the UC community,” the statement read.
