UCLA’s former fundraising director Steve Gamer recently left the university to join the University of California San Diego, after 11 years with the UCLA development team.
Nicholas Goldsborough, who has worked for several years in fundraising and development at UCLA, replaced Gamer on Jan. 2.
Gamer will lead fundraising efforts and alumni relations at UC San Diego as vice chancellor for advancement and director of the UC San Diego Foundation, according to a Jan. 6 press release.
UCLA had a record-breaking fundraising year last fiscal year when Gamer was the associate vice chancellor for development and the executive director of the UCLA Foundation. The total gifts and pledges from more than 57,900 donors reached $512 million.
The amount of donations UCLA received this fiscal year under Gamer’s leadership has already surpassed those received at the same time last fall quarter, said Vice Chancellor for External Affairs Rhea Turteltaub in an email.
“Thanks to his remarkable accomplishments at UCLA, Steve will bring experience and insight into the importance of private support for public universities,” said UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep Khosla in the press release.
Goldsborough was previously the assistant dean for development for UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture, as well as the Center for the Art of Performance, the Fowler Museum and the Hammer Museum.
Turteltaub said in the email that she expects the leadership transition to have a minimal effect on fundraising because of the number of people working on development.
