The UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering & Applied Science’s online master’s program was rated as the No. 2 online engineering program in the country in a U.S. News & World Report ranking released Wednesday.
The UCLA Master of Science in Engineering Online Program, founded in 2007, was the highest ranked program at a public university. It ranked after the program run by Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science.
Programs were ranked out of 100 total points by a weighted average of scores measuring faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, student engagement and admissions selectivity.
The UCLA program received its highest score, a perfect 100, in student services and technology, which includes the university’s innovative use of online technology and its support services for online students, according to the U.S. News & World Report.
Other high scores were in student engagement and admissions selectivity, 89 and 94 respectively.
“Our online master’s program combines the academic rigor required of all UCLA Engineering students with the convenience of an all-online program that serves working engineers who seek to enhance their knowledge and capabilities,” said Vijay K. Dhir, dean of the UCLA School of Engineering and Applied Science.
Students in this program can earn a degree in two years through completely online classes, which correspond to and are fully equivalent to courses offered on campus.
The UCLA School of Engineering and Applied Science as a whole was recently ranked No. 16 in the country and in the top ten public engineering schools by U.S. News & World Report.
