As a UCLA alumnus (and a member of the 1957 Rally Committee that was responsible for planning athletic spirit rallies for all sports) who loves our school colors, I was appalled to see our Bruins show up for a nationally televised bowl game wearing black uniforms that looked like they were borrowed from University of Oregon. Even the game commentators were questioning the UCLA outfits, wondering why they were black when “the UCLA powder blue and gold is the best football uniform in the country.”
When you compare the Sun Bowl uniforms with the traditional ones worn during our defeat of USC, we can only wonder why tradition is abandoned and who is responsible for such poor decisions.
I would hope that in the future dollars are not wasted by dressing our athletes in odd uniforms that are difficult to recognize as being those of UCLA. Tradition and school colors are important.

I’m glad to see I’m not alone on this.
