A dry ice explosion went off in Shapiro Fountain on the top of Janss Steps early on Monday, according to a university police report.
Two women and three men put the dry ice explosives in and around the fountain just after 1 a.m., according to the report.
Police determined the explosion was not a terrorist act, and no one was hurt in the explosion, according to the report.
The individuals who allegedly planted the devices fled toward Royce Hall, according to the report. They all wore dark clothing and one carried a cooler with a red bottom and white top, the report stated.
Both LAPD Major Crimes and UCPD are investigating the incident.
According to the UCPD report, devices such as these dry ice explosives are dangerous, and possessing or manufacturing them constitutes a felony.
