The Westwood Village Improvement Association approved a new Board of Directors on Thursday, following the first board-wide election since the association’s founding in 2011.
The organization, commonly referred to as the BID, consists of a board made up of property owners, merchants and one UCLA representative. It provides several services for the Westwood community, such as graffiti removal and tree trimming. The BID was renewed in July for another three-year term.
Six of the original board members, including BID Chair Jessica Dabney and UCLA Administrative Vice Chancellor Jack Powazek, were nominated Thursday to continue serving on the board. Six new members representing local businesses were also nominated and approved to serve on the board.
The original board members’ terms are set to expire at the end of this year, so the new board will take over beginning in January 2014, said Andrew Thomas, executive director of the BID.
Thomas said the new board does not have any term limits in place yet because the BID bylaws only set a term expiration for the first set of members.
He added that the BID is working to approve term limits for future boards, including the 12 members elected today, which will likely be several years.
Correction: This year’s elections are the first since the Westwood Village Improvement Association was founded in 2011.
